How Electrolysis Works
In all cases a fine, single-use, pre-sterilized probe will be inserted into each individual hair follicle then a pre-determined electrical current will be delivered. The current delivery technique may vary, but in all cases hair germ cells within the follicle are being destroyed causing the hair to regrow finer and slower over a series of treatments, resulting in permanent hair removal. Electrolysis does not discriminate against race, gender or age and is effective on all hair types and colors!
The short answer, Electrolysis is the only form of hair removal that is considered permanent and total. We are now offering IPL (Intense Pulse Light) for a full service hair removal practice. IPL is a Class II laser that uses meticulous light patterns to penetrate the skin and destroy hair follicles in larger areas with less treatment commitment and time. We received our Laser and IPL Certificate from the Electrology/Esthetics Institute of New England in 2023 to allow us a better serve our clients in all methods of hair removal. Unlike electrolysis Laser and IPL are not proven to remove all hair from any area and can not treat all skin types and hair colors, it is a great option for qualified candidates who would like to have large body areas or areas of dense growth treated. Both Laser and IPL work in similar fashions and require treatment less frequently than Electrolysis and can be preformed without hair being visibly present. The technology of both have advanced greatly over the last decade making IPL a perfectly fine starting place for clients. However, unlike electrolysis, Laser and IPL should not be preformed on tan skin and may have difficulty treating pigmented hair that is more blonde, red, or white.

At True You Electrology & IPL, LLC we rarely advocate for any Laser or IPL to be done on the face. Paradoxical Hypertrichosis is a highly documented condition in which Laser and IPL treatments have made facial hair growth worse for some clients. As a professional committed to hair reduction it's not something we would recommend for many of our facial hair clients. IPL and Laser are great modalities to help reduce hair growth in large body areas and dense hair growth areas such as backs, chests, underarms, bikini, legs and forearms. We do also recommend it in male facial hair, transgender facial hair and some CIS woman with PCOS, hirsutism or other hormone induced hair growth.
